New Jersey employers are facing a dizzying array of newly enacted laws and court decisions that challenge even the most seasoned human resource professionals to stay up to date on the latest legal issues impacting their workplace.

Our panel of presenters will adeptly address and clarify a wide range of pressing issues that are currently impacting human resource professionals

The Legal Update will focus on the following prescient issues facing New Jersey employers and human resource professionals:

    I. Health Care Update

Bill Spigonardo will provide a detailed healthcare update, including the status of the Affordable Care Act, and will address best practices for HR Professionals to help their organizations best navigate the evolving healthcare landscape.  Topics will include the following:

    • Report from the Front Lines
    • Reference Pricing
    • Captives
    • Upcoming Election Issues

    2.  HR Best Practices – Common Mistakes that Can Be Avoided

In this enlightening presentation, Jonathan Meyers will address the half dozen most common mistakes that Human Resources Professionals can make related to employee complaints and disputes.  These errors can be costly and often serve as the motivation for unhappy ex-employees and their counsel to pursue their claims of discrimination, retaliation, wage & hour violations and more.  What kind of documentation does your company keep?  Where does the breakdown in communication between HR and management hurt the most?  Mr. Meyers will examine these (and other) common weak spots that must be recognized and avoided.

    3.  2019 Legal and Legislative Update

Howard Vex will first provide a review of the numerous recently enacted employment laws in New Jersey, including, but not limited to:

    • Reflections: 18 months with The New Jersey Equal Pay Act.
    • Reflections: 18 months with The Ban on Salary History Inquiries

Howard Vex will then provide a case law roundup from the Federal and State Courts on important new case precedent related to restrictive covenants, medical marijuana use, personal appearance standards and more.  Finally, he will wrap up the evening’s presentation with a review of important cases scheduled before the U.S. Supreme Court in the Fall of 2019 and proposed legislation that could significantly impact the workplace.
